Janet “Jan” Blochlinger passed away surrounded by the ones she loved most on Sunday, August 9, 2026 at her home in Concordia, Kansas. She was born on July 14, 1948, at St. Joseph Hospital in Concordia, Kansas to Dean and Virginia (Everley) Thompson.
From an early age, she was raised in the loving home of her paternal grandparents, Cecil and Ida Thompson. Her “Mom” and “Pop” provided a strong foundation for her future.
Jan attended Concordia schools, graduating from Concordia High School in 1966.
She met her future husband and best friend, Larry Blochlinger, at the Cloud County Fair in 1963. They became high school sweethearts and were married in 1968. This union brought two children: Jeff, born in 1971 and Jennifer, born in 1978.
Jan’s top priority was being a mother and wife, in which she was most successful and enjoyed very much. She worked outside the home as a telephone operator, law librarian, farmer’s market worker, and at retail stores in downtown Concordia. She also had her own alteration business.
She always made a point to be home when the children got home from school. She was a very involved parent and rarely missed any of her children’s activities or performances. She may have even broken out of the intensive care unit, IV intact, to attend one of Jennifer’s softball games. Later, she would attend her granddaughter's activities, often bringing along homemade cookies for the kids and coach to enjoy. She welcomed their friends as well as adult friends and family around her table, whether for a meal, a visit or to watch Jennifer write poetry. She provided the comfort of a listening ear or a laugh, and no one could have had a better friend. She enjoyed music with her son, such as Guns and Roses and other popular bands.
Jan took great pride in her home and her beautifully unique yard and flower gardens. She was an avid deer hunter, fisherman, seamstress, quilter, and artist. Babies of family and friends enjoyed one of her baby quilts. Her granddaughters, Jaiden and Jocelyn, can still be found coming into her living room, kicking off their shoes, and wrapping up on a chair or couch in one of grandma’s blankets. She felt so blessed to be able to get to cuddle and play patty-cake with her first great-grandson, Stetson Waite.
She will be missed by her husband, Larry Blochlinger; children Jeffrey Blochlinger (Rick West) of Lawrence, KS and Jennifer Blochlinger-Gold (Tyson) of Salina, KS; grandchildren Jaiden Buller, Jocelyn Waite (Dakota); great grandson Stetson Waite; siblings Mike Thompson (Sharon) of Basehor, Beverly Lamendola (Bruce) of Kaw City, OK, Robert Ellis (Kim) of Salina, KS, and John Clinton; sister-in-law Patti Gold of Mimia, OK; and numerous other family and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Cecil and Ida Thompson, parents Dean and Virginia Thompson, and brothers Bill Gold and Marty Gold.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home with Pastor Pastor Al Paredes officiating. Visitation will take place at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home on Friday, August 14, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There will be a luncheon served at the American Legion Post #76 for family and friends following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or O’Conner Animal Shelter. They can be sent in care of Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, P.O. Box 606, Concordia, KS 66901. For online condolences visit www.chaputbuoy.com.
