Obituary

Janyce Marie (Kibbe) Matthew, Concordia, died Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Mt. Joseph Senior Village.

She was born May 28, 1932, on a farm north of Randall, Kansas to Murvin and Mildred (Clark) Kibbe, and attended school in Randall until moving to Jamestown where she graduated from high school in 1950.

Soon after graduating, at the urging of a family friend, she came to Concordia and applied for a job at Matthew's Greenhouse. Little did she know, at that time, how that job would impact her life.

She married Richard Lee Matthew on July 15, 1951, in Jamestown, Kansas. To this union were born two children, Sally Kay and Mark Richard.

Janyce and Richard owned and operated Matthew's Greenhouse in Concordia for over 30 years. During those years she worked side by side with her husband, and her hands made thousands of boutonnieres and corsages for excited young people attending proms, homecomings, weddings, and other special occasions.

Jan was passionate about many things, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren, quilting and bridge. She was very generous with the quilts she made for friends and family. One of her proudest accomplishments was achieving her Life Master Certification in bridge. She was a brilliant bridge player and was considered an area authority on the game.

She will be missed and remembered for her sharp wit, her sense of humor, and her playfulness.

Janyce is survived by her sister, Mary Jo Tubach, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; daughter, Sally Kay Kennedy of Olathe, Kansas; son, Mark Richard Matthew (Patricia) of Concordia, Kansas; granddaughter, Lisa Kennedy of Olathe, Kansas; granddaughter, Lori Lopez (Bryan) of Parkville, Missouri; grandson, Lucas Matthew (Traci) of Omaha, Nebraska; Daniel Matthew (Ashley) of Flagstaff, Arizona; great granddaughter Emily Cloud, great grandsons Emmett Lopez, Joshua Lopez, Jackson Lopez, Luca DeMartino, Bruce Matthew, and Clark Matthew; nieces Deb Shivers Redburn, Mary Matthew, and nephews David Matthew, Pat Tubach, and Matt Matthew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Murvin and Mildred Kibbe; husband, Richard Matthew; and sister, Brenda Sue Kibbe.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 15, 2022 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas with Bryan Lopez officiating.  Burial of cremains will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas.

As the Matthews were a multigenerational florist family, memorial flowers would always be appreciated, but memorial donations to Meadowlark Hospice or the O'Connor Animal Shelter would also be a lovely tribute to Janyce, in care of Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, PO Box 606, Concordia, KS 66901.  For online condolences please visit, www.chaputbuoy.com.
