Obituary

Jerry Lee Jasper, 62, Concordia, died April 11, 2010 at Salina Regional Hospital. Jerry was born December 10, 1947 in Burlington, Kansas. Jerry was the youngest son of Charles and Mary(Byfield) Jasper. He attended school in Gridley, Kansas. He worked in the oil fields until 1966 when he enlisted in the Air Force. Jerry was a Vietnam Veteran promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon discharge Jerry returned to Gridley to work in the oil fields. In 1976 Jerry began his career with the Missouri Pacific Railroad which later became Union Pacific Railroad. He retired from this employment in 2005. Jerry married Jan Hawkins on September 30, 1978 in Independence, MO. He later married Joyce Fellows on March 31, 1989 in Concordia, Kansas. In his younger years Jerry enjoyed playing baseball and this love of the sport followed him in later years by watching his grandson play. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of American Legion Post #76. Jerry is survived by his wife, Joyce, three sons, Kevin (and wife Amber) of Smithville, Mo., Kyle (and wife Jovonna) of Kansas City, Mo., and Kody of Haslett, Texas; one daughter, Amber Fellows of Concordia; his mother, Mary, of Burlington, Kansas, and grandchildren, Monica Fellows, Torin Fellows, Abby Valeka of Concordia, Corbin and Collin of Smithville, Mo, and Anna of Independence, MO. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles, and brother, Tom. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Wed., April 14, 2010 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia with Rev. Dean R. Frazier officiating. Visitation will be held from 12-9 PM with the family greeting friends from 6-8 PM, Tues. at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. Burial will follow the services at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia with Military honors by Fort Riley. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Assoc. or If It's God's Plan Fund in care of the funeral home.
