Obituary

Jerry James Sorell, 82 years of age, of Clyde passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on May 17, 1943, in Clyde, Kansas to Wilcid and Edna (Fief) Sorell.

Jerry was a graduate in Class of 1962, Clyde High School.

He served in the United States Army from 1960 ~ 1966 and was honorably discharged.

He married Kathleen Alexander on October 5, 1968, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clifton, Kansas

Jerry worked for Schmitt’s Clothing Store, Cloud County Community College and Walmart all of Concordia, Kansas.

He also cleaned the Clyde post office for many years.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #1999, Clyde and The Sons of American Legion Post #227, Clifton.

Jerry enjoyed fishing, hunting and most of all spending time with his family and friends.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Kathleen Sorell of Clyde; Amy (Robert "Bob") McCollough, Union, MO; son, Judd (Amber) Sorell of Clifton, KS; grandchildren, Autumn (Trask) Breault, Zach Sorell, Gunnar Sorell, Presleigh Sorell, Ryder Sorell, Stetson Sorell, Jedediah McCollough and Micah (Jakob) Whistler, great granddaughter, Carver Jo Breault.

Brothers and sisters-in-law, David (Linda) Alexander of Kerrville, Texas, Ronald (Nancy) Alexander Emporia, Kansas, Dan Alexander of Salina, Kansas, Dennis (Carol) Alexander of Clifton, Kansas, Cynthia (Randy) Dugan of El Dorado, Kansas, Phyllis (Lowell) Reith of Salina, Kansas.

Many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Joe Sorell, parents Wilcid and Edna Sorell, brother, Donald "Don" L. (Phillis) Sorell, sister, Donna M. (James) McChesney, father and mother-in-law, Lawrence “Bus” and Rita Alexander,

Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Chaput Mortuary, Clyde. Then moving to the St. John The Baptist Catholic Church at 5 pm until 8 pm.

A Rosary Service will be held at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, evening on April 16, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde, Kansas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, April 17, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde with Fr. Andrew Rockers and Fr. Joseph Kieffer officiating.

Inurnment will follow in the Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Clyde. After the graveside service family and friends are invited back to the church fellowship hall where a luncheon will be served.

Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #227, Clifton.
