Jo E. Glenn, 88 years of
age, of Concordia, formerly of Clifton, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2013
at Cloud County Health Center in Concordia. He was born on February 24, 1925 in
Clay County to William and Ellen (Shutt) Glenn. Jo served his country in the
United States Army during WWII as a surgical technician with the Medical
Detachment 163
rd
Infantry. While serving in the Army, Jo was a recipient
of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Jo married Bernice Rickley on September 3,
1946 in Clay Center. She passed away on March 24, 1972. He then married Jean
(Ferron) Arpin on October 1, 1974. She passed away on September 6, 2012. Jo was
a member of the American Legion Post #76, VFW Post #588, and Military Order of
the Purple Heart in Salina. He was well recognized for being the grower at
Matthews Greenhouse for 47 years. Jo loved his family and playing music.
Jo is survived by a
son, J. Ed Glenn and wife Cheryl of Kansas City, Missouri; daughter, Mary
Gonzales and husband Sabas of Indianapolis, Indiana; 2 step daughters, Patricia
Walker and husband James, DVM, of Concordia, Susan Bechard and husband Steven
of Clifton; 12 grandchildren, Bill Genereux, Melinda Schowengerdt, James Glenn,
Heather McFeely, Rachel Glenn, Andrew York, Amanda York, Lisa Kuhn, Mary Gutierrez,
April Fahey, Bradley Bechard, Devin Bechard; 15 great grandchildren; and
several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; both
spouses; a daughter, Bernita Genereux; brother, James Glenn; and a sister,
Marvel Kissick.
Mass of Christian
Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at St. Mary's
Catholic Church in Clifton with Rev. Larry Letourneau officiating. Interment
will be at approximately 1:00 PM in the Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center. Visitation will be held from
10 AM to 9 PM Tuesday, October 22, 2013 with a vigil service at 6:00 PM at
Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia. Memorials are suggested to the American
Legion or St. Jude's Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home.
