Obituary

John A. Eakins, age 89, entered into rest on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the Park Villa Nursing Home in Clyde, Kansas.  He was born on December 12, 1928 in Concordia, Kansas to Hamilton L. and Mabel A. (Burch) Eakins.
John married Joyce Shrader on July 1, 1950 in Wolf Point, Montana, having recently celebrated 68 years of marriage together.
John served in the United States Air Force during the Berlin Airlift as an Airplane Mechanic.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #588, where he served as commander, and also a member of the American Legion Post #76 both of Concordia.  John also called bingo for many years at the VFW # 588.
John was a farmer in the Clyde community.  He owned and operated Eakins Bros. Excavating with his brother Art.  John was the operator for the Cloud County rural water District #1 and also a volunteer Fire Fighter for rural Hollis community for many years.   He enjoyed woodworking, dancing and most of all spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Joyce of the home rural Clyde, 2 sons, Jack Eakins (Wenxia), Concordia, KS.; Jay Eakins, Bentonville, AR.; 2 daughters, Cheryl Tira (Tom), Columbus, NE.; Dawn Steinman (Albert), Chester, NE.; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, LeAnn Bridges, grandson, Bryan Runyan, 2 brothers, Thomas and Art Eakins, 2 sisters, Adelia Hay Falk, Bessie M. Payton.
Visitation will be from 1-9 pm, Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas with Pastor Jonathan Peppers officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hollis Cemetery, Hollis, Kansas.
Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #76, Concordia, Kansas at the graveside.
