Obituary

Mr. John Wendell Landry passed away 12:40 AM, Friday, July 6, 2012 at Brentwood, La Porte, IN.  Mr. Landry was born November 8, 1916 in Clyde, Kansas to Albert L. and Eva (Cyr) Landry and lived in La Porte since 2008 coming from Clyde, Kansas.  In February 1945 in Birmingham, Alabama he married Alice V. Mancin who preceded him on March 4, 1994, they were married 49 years. He retired from the Department Of Justice (Border Patrol Pilot), he was also a real estate broker and property manager. Mr. Landry was a veteran of the  U.S. Navy, U.S.S. Milwaukee- Ancient Order Of The Deep,  Army Air Corps, flight instructor, WWII Veteran, U.S. Air Force, 437th Troop Carrier Wing, Korean War Veteran, he was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion, Elks Club and Moose Club. As a pilot, John was qualified in 25 different aircraft, traversed 5 continents and logged nearly 14,000 flight hours, he enjoyed playing cards and was an avid dog lover who often took "Gus" his pet Boxer with him flying.

He leaves behind two sons John Landry Jr., Springfield, VA and Mark (Mary) Landry of La Porte, IN., three grandchildren Michelle Landry, Matthew Landry and Marinda Landry, two sister-in-laws Ruth Landry, Goddard, KS and Dolores Landry, Ames, KS., several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers Albert "Rex" and Maurice "Nick" Landry.

Funeral Service will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 11, 2012  at Chaput Mortuary in Clyde, Kansas, with Mrs. Reva Coash officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 10, 2012 from 4-7 PM and Wednesday from 9-10 AM at Chaput Mortuary, Clyde.  Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Clyde with military honors by VFW Post #7515.   Memorial contributions may be made to Michiana Humane Society, 722 Indiana Hwy 212, Michigan City, IN 46360.
