Obituary

Kenneth Ray ”Kenny” Cyr passed away at his home in Concordia, Kansas, July 8, 2026. Kenny was born February 2, 1948, in Concordia, to Loren and Geneva (Wagner) Cyr. He grew up in Ames, Kansas where his father managed the grain elevator and his mother was the assistant postmistress. After his graduation from Clyde Rural High School in 1966, he attended Vocational Technical School before being employed as a mechanic by Gould’s in Concordia. He was drafted into the U. S. Army and proudly served his country from 1967-69. He married Marilyn Christian in 1967 and to this union were born three sons: Marc, Korey, and Toby. He married Carolyn Liby Jensen in 1982 and became father to a daughter, Krystal, as well as to his bonus children: Renea, Dana, Darla, Corey, Lori, Jessica, and Lacy.

Kenny spent his life in Cloud County working primarily as a mechanic and later as a deliverer of the Salina Journal. More recently, he worked transporting auto parts for Concordia Chevrolet. He was a member of the Clyde VFW and the American Legion Post 76 in Concordia, where in recent years, he could be found most afternoons shooting the breeze with his fellow retirees.

Kenny is survived by his children: Marc Cyr, Norton, KS, Korey Cyr (Jennifer), Almena, KS, Toby Cyr (Miriam), Toronto, Canada, and Krystal Alquist (Jason), Panama City, Florida, his sister, Janet Cyr, Overland Park, KS, his brother-in-law, Leroy Tholstrup, Concordia, KS, He was the proud grandpa to his grandchildren: Brittany Belisle (Brandon), Breanna Nimtz (Eric), Kobey Cyr (Jade). Lauren Cyr, Garrett Cyr, Chase Cyr, Hunter Cyr, Jack Cyr, Aubrey Henderson, and Dylan Alquist, who all survive him, as well as 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his bonus children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren who he claimed as his own: Shaela Chartier (Travis), Concordia Kansas, Renea Oatney (Tobby), Washington, Kansas, Dana Holle (Dennis), Phoenix, Arizona, Corey Pfizenmaier (Arianne), Clifton Kansas, Lori Brumfield (Allen), Clay Center, Kansas, Jessica Kueker (Ryan), Wamego Kansas, and Lacy Wichers (Brett), Beloit Kansas. To him, family was not only by blood, but by love, loyalty, and the bonds they shared. He was a great father, grandfather, and great grandfather to all his children, bonus or biological.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Joyce Cyr Tholstrup, and bonus daughter, Darla. 

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, KS with Samantha Stensaas serving as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Ames, KS.

Fellowship will continue after the graveside service at the American Legion Post #76, Concordia, KS.
