Kenneth Joseph Smith was born on January 16, 1924 in Tipton, Kansas to Lewis and Eva Lucille Grady Smith. He passed from this life on May 23, 2007 at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, Kansas at the age of 83. H e attended school in Pleasant Plains District 51 in Cawker City, KS. He lived most of his life in the Concordia area. He married Mildred L. Fiedler on Nov. 23, 1948 in Cawker City, KS. She preceded him in death on Feb. 11, 1995. He worked as a mechanic and salesman for the local John Deere dealership for many years. He then operated Smith Salvage until his retirement. He served in the Navy for two years aboard the battleship U.S.S. New Jersey, and on the Island of Tinnian in the South Pacific. He was a member of the American Legion Post #76 and VFW Post #588. He is survived by daughters, Karen Dykes and Hus. Bob, Charolette Deneault and Hus. Dale, Lisa Snavely and Hus. Mike all of Concordia, Kansas, Rhonda Bunch and Hus. Jerry of Ellsworth, Kansas, sons, Kevin Smith and wife Jacqueline, Kent Smith and wife Julie all of Concordia, Kansas, Brad Smith and wife Rhonda of El Dorado, Kansas, Terry Smith and wife Modene, Todd Smith and wife Dana all of Salina, Kansas, sisters, Nora Peters and Hus. Richard of Mayer, Arizona, Alice Brownell and Hus. John of Concordia, Kansas, brothers, Don Smith and wife Shirley of Cawker City, Kansas, Robert Smith and wife Joann of Glen Elder, Kansas, 22 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, his parents, brothers, Harold and Richard Smith, sister, Donna Carter and great grandchild, Joey Wheeler. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home with Rev. Barry Brinkman and Rev. David Redmond officiating. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 7 PM, with a Vigil service at 6:30 PM Monday, May 28, 2007 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post # 76 and VFW Post #588. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials that will be designated at a later date.
