Obituary

Larry Greene was born on March 24, 1924 in Beverly, KS on the farm to Clinton & Lulu (Painter) Greene. He passed from this life on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Cloud County Health Center, Concordia, KS at the age of 84. Larry graduated from Beverly High School, he then served in the US Navy's Sea Bees during WWII until his discharge in 1946. Larry married Verda Knipp on Aug. 6, 1947 in Westmoreland, KS. Larry earned a B.S. in Agronomy from Kansas State and was a county extension agent when the family moved to Concordia and later worked as a field man for Farm Management Services until his retirement in 1979. Larry later taught Agri-Business & computers at Cloud County Community College for 5 years. Larry's passion was with Gideon's International, he was a life member of American Legion Post #76 & a member of VFW Post #588, a member of The Baptist Church, Concordia and volunteered his time taking care of the yard work for the Cloud County Museum. Larry is survived by his wife, Verda Greene, Concordia, KS; daughters, Carol Fahring & husband Marvin, Concordia, KS & Marcia Greene & friend Michiel Prochaska, Salina, KS; grandchild, Jason Fahring & wife Michelle, Attica, KS; great grandchildren: Emelia & Calbe Fahring, Attica, KS; step brothers, Leonard Dewhirst, Tucson, AZ & step brother: Clayton Dewhirst, Lincoln, KS. Larry was a special "Kansas" Father & Grandfather to Quentin & Chris Smith & their children Abraham, Benjamin & Joshua Smith & families. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters & 2 brothers. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wed., Dec. 17, 2008 at The Baptist Church, Concordia with Pastor David Fabarez officiating. Burial of the cremains will follow the services at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia with military honors conducted by American Legion Post #76 & VFW Post #588. Friends may sign the register book from 9 AM to 5 PM Tues, Dec. 16, 2008 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Gideon's International.
