IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Laurence D.
Cox
June 12, 1928 – July 11, 2015
Laurence D. Cox was born on June 12, 1928 and passed away on July 11, 2015 at his home. He was born to Earl and LaVerta Cox in Nehawka, NE. He was a graduate of Nebraska University in Civil Engineering and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
Laurence was united in marriage to Patricia E. Pryor on September 3, 1950. He was the Vice-President and co-owner of Quartzite Stone Company and retired in 1984. Laurence was active in many community organizations including serving on the USD 333 school board, the Concordia City Commission, and as Mayor of Concordia. He was the past president of the Kansas Readimix Concrete Association and involved in several community organizations. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Concordia.
Laurence will be missed by his wife Pat, daughter Deborah Chambers and husband Clark of Wichita, sons David of Fort Collins, Colorado, Dennis and wife Lauralea of Milford, KS, Chris and wife Kathy of Clay Center, KS. Grandchildren; Erin Ruffner (Mike), Tara Cox, Erica Chambers, Carrie Chambers (Chris Titus), Garett, Evan, Trevor, and Kyle Cox and four great-grandsons. Sister in law, Charlotte Sailors (Gene), Fargo, ND & brother in law, Merril Howrey, Rogers, AR. Laurence was also blessed with special neighbors Steve and Dana Nelson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Don, and his sister Carlene. Laurence had an incredible gift of being able to fix nearly anything and was always willing to tackle a challenge. His trademark phrase was "it'll work" and most of the time he was correct. He loved being with family and also had a passion for hunting, fishing, and Friday night Bingo. His dry sense of humor will be missed by all those that knew him.
It was Laurence's wish to be cremated and the family will welcome friends at a Celebration of Life Gathering on Friday, July 24, 2015 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church or the Donor's Choice in care of the funeral home. For online condolences, please visit www.chaputbuoy.com.
