Laurine F. Slaughter was born on Dec. 3, 1938 in White City, KS to Raymond J. & Helen F. (Palmer) Pearce. She passed from this life on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009 at her home in Concordia, KS at the age of 70. Laurine attended grade school in Osawatomie schools and graduated from Concordia High School. She married Art Slaughter on Aug. 11, 1957 in Concordia. Laurine worked at Lester's Sweet Shop, Bon Marche & the Telephone Office before she & Art owned and operated Daylight Clothing for over 35 years. Laurine was a member of the First Christian Church, Concordia where she always enjoyed teaching Sunday School. She also was a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship, Group 1 & the Mostly Moms group. Laurine is survived by her husband: Art Slaughter, Concordia, KS; daughters: Janel Slaughter, Wichita, KS & Lisa Sanders & husband Don, Canon City, CO; brother: Lynn Pearce & wife Susan, Pearland, TX & grandchildren: Derek & Dustin Sanders, Canon City, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents & brothers, Clinton & Raymond Pearce. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Wed., Aug. 26, 2009 at the First Christian Church with Rev. John States officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM with the family greeting friends from 6-7 PM, Tues., Aug. 25, 2009 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. Burial will follow the services at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia. The family suggests memorials to the First Christian Church or American Heart Assoc. in care of the funeral home.
