Leah C. Dunkin, age 105, died Fri., Feb. 5, 2016 at Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center, KS. She was born Feb. 13, 1910 on a farm close to Palmyra, IL to Frank & Elfa (Etter) Flentje.
When she was a small girl, she moved with her family to a farm south of Farmersville, MO. She attended Farmersville & Ward rural schools. She attended Chula High School for 3 years and graduated high school in 1927 in Trenton, MO. She attended summer term at Trenton Junior College and summer term at Maryville College. She taught school at Liberty for 3 years. She married Herbert T. Dunkin on April 20, 1930 and they moved to a farm southeast of Trenton. They spent their married life on the farm and she always thanked God for her life in the country. After the death of her husband in 1986, she and her daughter, Virginia continued to live on the farm until she suffered a stroke and they went to live with her daughter, Patricia in Clyde, KS. She was a long time member of Liberty Chapel Christian Church and was supportive of mission work. She loved gardening & yard work in the summer and then quilting & sewing during the winter months.
She is survived by her daughters, Virginia & Patricia, Clyde, KS.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; her parents; brothers & their spouses, Rudolph (Cleo) Flentje & Winston (Lorene) Flentje & her sister & her husband, Florence (Floyd) Foster.
Funeral services will be 9:30 am, Fri., Feb. 12, 2016 at the Clyde Christian Church, Clyde, KS. Burial services will be at 3:00 pm, Fri., Feb. 12, 2016 at Stucker Cemetery, Trenton, MO. Visitation will be form 1-5 pm, Thurs., Feb. 11, 2016 at Chaput Mortuary, Clyde, KS. The family suggests memorials to the Clyde Arboretum or the Shiloh Children's Home, Clarence, MO in care of the funeral home.
