Obituary

Leonard I. Tatro was born on March 24, 1925 in Concordia, KS to Victor H. and Agnes (Thyfault) Tatro. He passed from this life on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008 at Republic County Hospital in Belleville, KS at the age of 83. He attended Concordia High School. At the age of 18 he entered into the US Army on July 30, 1943 in Leavenworth, KS. He served in the 81st "Wildcat" Division, 321st Inf. He served in the Southern Phillippines, the Palue Islands and Guata Canal and ended up as peace keepers on the north end of Japan. He was honorably discharged on Feb. 2, 1946. He married Dorothy Barker on Sept. 28, 1946 in Concordia, KS. They moved to Mason City, IA where he was a powerhouse foreman for Lehigh Portland Cement Co, retiring after 25 years. Leonard was active in the North Iowa Coon Hunting Assoc., he was scout master of Troop 11 and graduated from Reisch Auctioneer School all in Mason City, IA. Leonard and Dorothy moved back to Concordia, KS in 1979 and lived in the log cabin that Dorothy's father built in the 1920's. Leonard then worked at the El Dorado motor home plant in Minneapolis, KS and for the Cloud Co. Highway Dept. until retiring from working at age 65. Leonard spent the rest of his life taking care of his wife until she preceded him in death on Feb. 9, 2007. He enjoyed spending his time hunting and fishing with family and friends. He is survived by his sons, Jack Tatro & wife Gerda, Jamestown, KS, Jeff Tatro, Concordia, KS & Jim Tatro, Ft. Collins, CO; a daughter, Jolene Springer & husband Harold, Hampton, IA; a daughter in law, Jean Tatro, Clear Lake, IA; brothers: Franklin & Robert Tatro, Glasco, KS; sisters, Lena Webster, Barnard, KS, Victoria Gilbert, Jamestown, KS & Charlotte Gilbert, Fayetteville, AR; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren & 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; daughter-Joyce Tatro; son-John Tatro; Parents; brothers-Victor, Jr. & Edward Tatro; sisters-Margaret (Collins) Mettler, Clara Thorpe & Emiline (Everett) Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia with Pastor Bob Burns officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post #76 and VFW Post #588. The family suggests memorials to the Leonard Tatro Memorial.
