Leonard Ray Wiltse was born on March 20, 1926 in rural Lamar, Kansas to George W. & Emma K. Shroyer Wiltse. He died on Wed., March 21, 2007 at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, KS. H e was born on March 20, 1926 at Lamar, KS. He attended high school but quit to enter the Army. He served in World War II in the European Theatre with the 78th Army Infantry Division. He was wounded at the "Battle of Remagen" receiving the Purple Heart. The Remagen Bridge was located over the Rhine River and had strategic significance both during WWI and WWII. This battle marked the beginning of the end of WWII in the west of the German Riech. He was married for a short time and to this union, one son was born, Eric Eugene in 1952. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post #588 and American Legion Post #76. He served as post commander and secretary. He enjoyed reminiscing and researching World War II. He also was an avid duck and deer hunter. He was employed by the Blade Empire for 40 years as a type-setter. He also was a member of the Moose Post #1428, Ducks Unlimited, National Rifle Association, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Disabled American Veterans and the National Veterans News Network. He had recently moved to Jewell, KS and attended the Assembly of God Church in Jewell. He is survived by his son; Eric Elwood and wife Tena of Belleville, KS; a grandson; Ethan Elwood of Belleville, KS; Sisters; Dorothy Lawyer of Concordia, KS and Geraldine Bennett & Hus. Dick of Longmont, CO; Brothers; Calvin Wiltse & wife Dee of Concordia, KS, Warner Wiltse & wife Evie of Toledo, OH and George Wiltse & wife Iva of Chanute, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 2 brothers. Services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Mon, March 26, 2007 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home with Rev. Art Taylor, officiating. Visitation will be from 2-9 PM Sun., Marhc 25, 2007 with the family receiving friends from 2-4 PM at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery will military graveside honors conducted by American Legion Post #76 & VFW Post #588.
