Lewis "Turk"
Harding
December 14, 1916 – November 10, 2013
Lewis Eugene "Turk" Harding, 96 years of age, of
Concordia, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Marquis Place in Concordia.
He was born on December 14, 1916 in Pratt County to Lyman T. and Lillie (Cirkle)
Harding of Isabel. He graduated from Isabel High School in 1936 and worked on a
farm for five years. In 1942 he married Lois Darlene Mease and they had two
wonderful children, Eugenia Lee "Genie" and Sammy Wayne "Sam". In 1942 Turk
began a career with the Western Light and Telephone Company in Medicine Lodge.
The following April he was transferred to Harper. He was transferred in 1953 to
Concordia as power company superintendent for northern Kansas. Turk retired in
1981 after 40 years of service. As an avid golfer, it was fitting that Turk's
second career was the grounds keeper at the Concordia Country Club where he
worked for 10 years. He was also a dedicated member of the First United
Methodist Church, the Harper Masonic Lodge, the American Legion Club, and the
Moose Lodge.
Turk is survived by his wife, Lois; son, Sam and
wife Jacquie of Chicago, Illinois; granddaughter, Angela DeCoursey and husband
Mark of Lenexa; son-in-law, Dave Schafer of Kansas City, Missouri; grandson,
Phillip Ruth of St. Louis, Missouri;five great-grandchildren, Samuel, Nicholas,
and Megan DeCoursey, and Alex and Nick Ruth two sisters, Leona Muth of Wichita
and Lois Marie Hare of Kimberling City, Missouri. He was preceded in death by
his daughter, Genie; his parents; and five brothers, Vernon, Ralph, DeWayne,
Lloyd, and Dean.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday,
November 15, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Concordia with Rev.
Tessa Zehring officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in
Concordia. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM Thursday, November 14,
2013 with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 PM in the Chaput-Buoy Funeral
Home in Concordia. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First
United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home. Chaput-Buoy
Funeral Home in Concordia is in charge of arrangements.
