Lila Mildred Chubbuck Briggs

Lila was born Feb. 25, 1914 at Rice, Kansas , the daughter of Perry M. and Lena Ledig Chubbuck. She attended the Rice school and graduated from Concordia High School in 1931. She passed away May 22, 2008 at Mt. Joseph Senior Community, Concordia , Kansas .

Lila worked as a waitress in restaurants in Concordia and Salina and married L. Johnny Kelley on September 7, 1946 in Salina , Kansas . Lila and Johnny returned to the Rice community where Lila became postmaster of the Rice post office. They adopted a son, Terry Kelley, whose whereabouts are now unknown. Lila and Johnny divorced in 1966.

On February 4, 1970, Lila married Isaac Briggs of Concordia. Ike preceded her in death in 1976.

During this time Lila continued to manage the Rice post office and was employed as a waitress for the Skyliner Restaurant in Concordia. She retired from the post office on January 9, 1980. Lila resided in Rice until 2003, at which time she moved to Mt. Joseph Senior Village in Concordia.

Lila loved to travel and enjoyed wintering in Texas in her camper for many years, as well as trips to the Caribbean and to Alaska . She enjoyed her nieces and nephews and her great-nieces and nephews a great deal.

Lila was a member of the National League of Postmasters, the Rice Methodist Church and the Concordia First United Methodist Church . She is survived by five nephews and nieces: Robert Chubbuck of Omaha, NE, Paul Chubbuck of Fort Collins, CO, Ruthann Chubbuck Young of Lincoln, NE, Linda Chubbuck Slaughter of Lee's Summit, MO, and Julie Chubbuck Hamel of Chapman, KS, and a sister-in-law, Jeanne Chubbuck Ritter, of Lee's Summit , MO.

Services will be held at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia at 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 27, 2008 with Pastor L. Dean Thompson, officiating. Visitation will be from 1-8 PM with family greeting friends from 7-8 PM, Monday, May 26, 2008 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Mt. Joseph , Concordia, or to the First United Methodist Church , Concordia.
