Obituary

Lillian "Gertrude" Bergstrom, 83 years of age, of Clyde, passed away Friday, July 13, 2012 at Clay County Medical Center in Clay Center. She was born on June 2, 1929 in Clyde to Walter and Elva (LeSage) Dunphy. Gertrude graduated from Clyde High School in 1947. She married Eldon "Ike" Bergstrom on May 21, 1949 in Clyde. Donating blood was very important to Gertrude and she received the 100 pint pin for her efforts. She also received special recognition from the American Red Cross for her contributions and at one time, Gertrude was the leading donor in Cloud County. She was a CNA for 19 years at the Estelle Care Home in Clifton. Gertrude was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and the Clyde VFW Women's Auxiliary. She enjoyed music and singing, and especially spending time with her family.

Gertrude is survived by her husband, Eldon "Ike" Bergstrom; 4 children, Reggie Bergstrom and wife Cindy of Clyde, Denise Hickman and husband Dan of Portland, OR, Stan Bergstrom and wife Beth of Clyde, Joni Bergstrom and fiancé Gary Letourneau of Jamestown; 12 grandchildren, Lacie, Lynelle, Loni, Lisa, Christine, Robert, Lauren, Reed, Ian, Jacob, Chandra, Brittney; 17 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, MaryAnne Jacob of Concordia, Eloise Spurgeon of Wichita; a brother, William Dunphy and wife Emma of Manhattan; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant twin daughters, Veronica and Monica; great grandson, Jace; and 2 sisters, Rita L'Ecuyer and Catherine Marcotte.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM Friday, July 20, 2012 in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Clyde with Rev. Larry Letourneau officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Clyde. Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 PM Thursday, July 19, 2012 with a rosary being recited at 4 PM in the Chaput Mortuary in Clyde followed by a vigil service at 6 PM in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Clyde. Memorials are suggested to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the North Central Kansas Down Syndrome Society in care of the mortuary.
