Widen
April 21, 1985 – August 4, 2013
Marcus James Widen, 28
years of age, of Concordia, passed away unexpectedly from injuries sustained in
an automobile accident Sunday, August 4, 2013 south of Belleville. He was born
on April 21, 1985 in Concordia to Mark Steven and Katrina Dawn (Taylor) Widen. Marcus
graduated from Belleville High School in 2003. He enlisted in the United States
Navy shortly after and was honorably discharged 6 years later in 2009. While in
the Navy, Marcus graduated from Nuclear Power School with honors. He was a
machinist mate 3
rd
class and worked as a nuclear lab tech on the USS
Abraham Lincoln. After serving in the Navy, Marcus went to Oklahoma State
University where he earned an Associate's Degree with honors in the High Voltage
Program. He was currently working as a Journeyman Lineman for Rolling Hills
Electric. Marcus enjoyed everything about life, being a dad, and the outdoors.
Marcus is survived by
his parents, Mark and Katrina of Belleville; brother, Thaddeus Widen and Terri
Hundley of Virginia Beach, Virginia; son, Wyatt and mother Kara Champlin, both
of Concordia; grandparents, Mary Alice Widen of Concordia, Ken and Arlene Felch
of Topeka; honorary grandmother, Bernadeane Jeardoe of Concordia; and several
aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by
grandfathers, Merle "Bud" Widen, Larry K. Taylor; and uncle, Marty Widen.
Funeral Services will
be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 7, 2013 in the First United Methodist
Church in Concordia with Rev. Tessa Zehring officiating. Interment will be in
the Saron Lutheran Cemetery north of Concordia with Military Rites provided by
the United States Navy, American Legion Post #76, and the VFW Post #588.
Visitation will be held from noon to 9 PM Tuesday, August 6, 2013 with family
greeting friends from 6 – 7:30 PM in the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to a trust fund established at
Central National Bank, PO Box 329, Concordia, KS 66901 for the higher education
for Marcus' son, Wyatt payable to Wyatt Widen.
