Obituary
Marjorie I. Gates, age 94, entered into rest on Monday, November 23, 2015 at Cloud County Health Center, Concordia. She was born May 14, 1921 to Jordan and Alice (Barber) Rexroat.
Marjorie graduated from Downs High School and then attended Fort Hays State University Teacher's College for 1 year.
She married Raymond Gates on September 29, 1942 in Phoenix, Arizona. He preceded her in death August 28, 1971.
She was secretary of the Downs High School, where she started the hot lunch program for Down's Schools. She also served as City Clerk of Downs. Marjorie loved camping, fishing and most of all spending time with her family.
Marjorie was a member of the Concordia Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include her two daughters, Pat Burns (Bob), Concordia; Rosalind Kay Shortt, Concordia; 2 brothers, Walker Rexroat, Downs; Bill Rexroat (Nedra), Salina; Grandchildren, Andy and Ashley Burns, Lisa and Steven Garner; Great-Grandchildren, Eli Burns, Sierra McRae, Erin Edwards(Kevin), Evan Garner; Great-Great Grandchild, Emrie Edwards.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother, Jordan Junior Rexroat, sister, Naida AraSmith.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 with family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. all at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 27, 2015 at the Concordia Wesleyan Church with Rev. David Redmond officiating.
Burial will be in the afternoon at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, November 27, 2015 in the Downs Cemetery, Downs, Kansas.
Memorial Contributions may be given to Concordia Wesleyan Church c/o Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.
