Marvin Bates was born on June 29, 1942 in Norton County, KS to Martin & Margaret (Long) Bates. He passed from this life on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Cloud County Health Center, Concordia, KS at the age of 66. He grew up in and around Norton County, KS. He attended schools in New Almelo. He was a semi-truck driver until illness forced him to retire. He was married to Mary Ford for 28 years. He is survived by his wife: Mary Bates, Concordia, KS; sons, Brad Bates, Logan, KS, John Bates & wife Kim, Oklahoma City, OK & Gary Bates, Salina, KS; a daughter, Diane Lindsey & husband Brooks, Moore, OK; step-daughters, Donna Tate & husband Clint, Concordia, KS, Lori Dill & husband Tim, Pratt, KS & Tammi Friis, Salina, KS; step-son, Eddie Hornof, Pratt, KS; a brother: Marlin Bates, Phillipsburg, KS; sisters, Martha Bennett & husband Richard, Meriden, IA, Marie Burls & husband Bob, Oberlin, KS & Marilyn Dial & husband Rod, Norton, KS; 9 grandchildren & 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Mark Bates and a grandson, Brandon Bates. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Friday, November 28, 2008 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, KS with Rev. Barry Brinkman officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM, Wed., November 26, 2008 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. Burial will follow the services at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia. The family suggests memorials to the Sisters of St. Joseph.
