Marvin Eugene Fairbanks was born on Sept. 12, 1927 in Concordia, KS to  Bess (Johnson) Brees. He died on Mon, Nov. 28, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Minneapolis, KS at the age of 84. He grew up in Clyde, KS where he attended grade school and later moved to Concordia to finish high school. After high school, Marvin went to work for Metz-Seymour Packing Co. until he was drafted into the Army during WWII. After serving his enlistment, he returned to work for Metz-Seymour as a truck driver. Marvin married Mary Alice Knedlik on Sept. 12, 1954 in Concordia. In 1961, Seymour's closed and he went to work for Fairmont-Roberts Foods as a truck driver until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the American Legion in Barnes, KS & a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge #1428. He is survived by his wife of 57 years: Mary Fairbanks, Concordia, KS; daughter: Marva Sue Jack & husband Frank, Concordia, KS; sons: Scott Fairbanks & wife Debbie, White City, KS & Stan Fairbanks & wife Lisa, Lucas, KS; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren: 1 step grandson & 2 step great grandchildren, a brother in law and 2 nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother; mother in law, Esther Knedlik; a son, Steven; sister in law and a nephew. The family selected cremation and Memorial services will be held Sat., Dec. 10, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home with Rev. David Strommen officiating. Friends may sign the register book from 9 AM to 9 PM Friday, Dec. 9th, 2011 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. Burial of the cremains will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia with Military Honors by American Legion Post #76 and VFW Post #588. The family suggests memorials to the Good Samaritan of Minneapolis, KS.
