Obituary

Marvin E. Nicholas was born on Aug. 31, 1920 in Pottawatomie Co., KS to Louis & Cumah (Crandall) Nicholas. He died on Sat., April 14, 2012 at Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde , KS at the age of 91. Marvin was the 4 th of 13 children and when the family moved from Green, KS to Coos Bay , OR at the age of 13, he remained in KS and worked for area farmers. He married Hazel Modean on May 29, 1941 in Clay Center, KS. She preceded him on March 22, 1982. Marvin served in the US Army in Germany from 1942-1945 during WWII out of Ft. Riley with an artillery division and was part of the 3 rd wave on Normandy . After his discharge, he and Hazel moved to Clyde , KS and farmed until 1984. He was a member of the Clyde United Methodist Church and VFW Post #455. He is survived by his sons, Larry Nicholas and wife Nancy, Clyde, Dale Nicholas and wife Mary, Clyde; daughter, Glenda Keller & husband Paul, Washington , KS ; brother, Bill Nicholas of OR; sisters, Edith Jones & Eula, both of OR; 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel; parents, 5 brothers, 4 sisters & a grandson. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Wed., April 18, 2012 at the Clyde United Methodist Church , Clyde , KS with military honors and burial following at Greenwood Cemetery , Clay Center . Visitation will be held from 11 am to 8 pm with the family greeting friends from 6:30 to 7:30 pm Tues. at Chaput Mortuary, Clyde . The family suggests memorials to Meadowlark Hospice or the church.
