Matt was born June 3, 1985 in La Crosse, KS to Dean & Peggy Rixon Smith. He died Friday, January 19, 2007 at Salina Regional Health Center, in Salina, KS at the age of 21. He attended Beloit, KS schools and graduated from Beloit High School. He attended Cloud County Community College. He loved music, art and drawing. He fought a valiant lifelong battle against Muscular Dystrophy since his diagnosis at birth. He had a host of friends and relatives that will miss his infectious personality. He is survived by his mother Peggy of Jewell, KS; his sisters-Lori Gottschalk of Three Ways, TN and Meredith Smith of Jackson, TN; grandmother-Betty Belle (Treffer) Smith of San Bernardino, CA; Aunt-Joy & Kirby Petz of McCracken, KS; uncle-Craig & Deb Rixon of McCracken, KS; several additional aunts and uncles and several friends. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Chapel in Concordia, KS. Visitation will be from 9 am to 9 pm Monday with the family greeting friends from 7-8 pm Monday at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. Cremation will take place after the funeral services. Memorials have been designated to OCCK or Vocational Rehabilitation.
