Melva D. Gerard, age 84, died Mon., Nov. 16, 2015 at Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia, KS.  She was born on Sept. 30, 1931 in Wichita, KS to Lemuel & Louise (Warnholz) Williams.

She married Burton K. Gerard on Sept. 20, 1947 in Caldwell, KS. He preceded her on Oct. 7, 1998. They lived in several different communities until moving to Concordia in 1950. Melva was the bookkeeper for her husband's construction company, BG Construction. She was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church, where she taught various Sunday School classes and was involved with the United Methodist Women. Burton & Melva were instrumental in founding and coordinating Worship services at Lovewell Lake since 1969.

She is survived by her son, Ron Gerard (Tricia), K.C., MO; granddaughter, Shea Gerard, Overland Park; sister in law, Pat Gerard, Concordia; several nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Burton; parents & a sister, Carol Engstrom.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Thurs., Nov. 19, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church, Concordia with Rev. Tessa Zehring officiating.  The family will greet friends from 10-11 am, Thurs. at the church.  Visitation will be from 9 am to 5 pm, Wed., Nov. 18, 2015 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the O'Connor Animal Shelter or Meadowlark Hospice in care of the funeral home.
