Melvin R. Thornton, 88 years of age, of Concordia, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2013 at the Resident Care Center in Beloit. He was born on January 27, 1925 at Randall to Miles and Leota Thornton. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Melvin married Erika Distler on May 19, 1961.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Erika; sister, Florence Fitch of Oregon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Doris Mahin, Lucille Plowman, Loreita Yarber; and 2 brothers, William and Howard.

Per Melvin's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services. Inurnment will be at a later date with his wife Erika in the Randall Cemetery in Randall. Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia is in charge of arrangements.
