Opal K. Chaput, age 102, died Thurs., April 21, 2011 at Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde, KS. She was born July 26, 1908 in Jewell County, KS, between Jamestown and Randall, to Clara (McKee) or Birdie as she was known, and Harry Rank. She grew up in the Clyde and Clifton area, living with the Jim Lewis family after her mother passed away when Opal was 10. She graduated from Clifton High School in 1927. She attended Concordia Business College and worked in the Cloud County Courthouse until 1941. She married Armand (Jim) Roy on Nov. 22, 1932. Together they owned the restaurant in Aurora from 1943-1946. Jim preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 1970. She later married Oliver Chaput on June 26, 1976 and he preceded her in death in 1992. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Bessie Isaacson. She is survived by her 3 sons; Darrell (Judy) Roy of Stoughton, WI, Rex (Sharon) Roy, Clyde, KS and Bruce (Vicky) Roy, Clyde, KS; 7 grandchildren, Karen (Jerry) Johanning, Minnetonka, MN, Jim (Amy) Roy, Oconomowoc, WI, Christine (Allan) Towle, Topeka, KS, Mike (Ruth) Roy, Ozawkie, KS, Stacy (Brian) Roderman, Plano, TX, Angela (Kent) Dittmer, Linn, KS and Lindsey (Aaron) Eusterweimann, Shawnee, KS; 20 great grandchildren and a half sister, Donna Lou Jensen, Jamestown, KS. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Mon, April 25, 2011 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde with Rev. Larry Letourneau officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM with a vigil service at 6:30 PM, Sun. April 24, 2011 at Chaput Mortuary. Burial will follow the funeral services at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Clyde. The family suggests memorials to the Clyde Ambulance Fund or Park Villa Nursing Home in care of the funeral home.
