Obituary

Paul A. Johnson was born Oct. 10, 1922 on a farm SW of Concordia, KS to Carl & Edith (Olson) Johnson. He passed from this life on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010 at Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia, KS at the age of 87. He graduated from Concordia High School and then attended school at Ft. Hays State. Paul married Faith Ward on July 23, 1944 at The Baptist Church in Concordia. She preceded him in death on Jan. 14, 2003 . During WWII, Paul served in the US Navy as the Commanding Officer of the minesweeper, the USS Positive, in the Middle East and Caribbean Seas. Upon returning from the Navy, he graduated from Kansas State University with degrees in civil engineering & math. Paul began his engineering career as a county engineer for several Kansas counties. He then became a partner in Reece-Johnson Construction, formerly known as Reece, Harwood & Moe Construction Co. Later, Paul became partners with Ralph Campbell, and they started Campbell & Johnson Engineers. Paul was a member of The Baptist Church where he was very active and served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and in many other ways. Paul served on the General & Executive Board of the Sunset Nursing Home for a number of years. Paul was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather & great grandfather. Paul is survived by his sons: Alan Johnson & wife, Ruth, Clay Center, KS, Eric Johnson & wife, Carole, Concordia, KS, and Kenneth Johnson & wife, Peggy, Concordia, KS; daughter: Winifred Dewey & husband, Keith, Hudson, IA; sisters: Mabel Ostrom, Concordia, KS & Pearl Ganstrom & husband, Gene, Concordia, KS; brothers: Carl Johnson, Jr. & wife, Therese, Clay Center, NE and Earl Johnson & wife, Goldie, Junction City, KS; 9 grandchildren & 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faith; parents & grandson, Karl Dewey. Funeral services will be at 10 AM, Sat., Sept. 11, 2010 The Baptist Church, Concordia , Kansas on with Pastor David Fabarez officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM with the family greeting friends from 7-8 PM Friday at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas. The family suggests memorials to the Sunset Home or The Gideon's International.
