Paul L. Nelson, age 91, longtime Glasco resident entered into rest on April 17, 2016 at the Nicol Home, in Glasco, KS. He was born September 20, 1924 in Barnard, Kansas to George and Jewell (Cummings) Nelson. He was third of seven children.
After graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy and served as a Gunners Mate aboard the USS Haggard in the South Pacific during WWII.
He met Dorothy Orndorf in Bremerton, Washington and they married in Norfolk, Virginia in 1945. They had over 45 years together before her passing in 1991.
To this union three children were born: Paulette Bray (David), Craig, CO.; Delores Christensen (Bill), Pinedale, WY & Russ Nelson (Michelle), Westcliffe, CO.; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
He retired from Northern Natural Gas Pipeline and also worked for several area farmers. He drove the ambulance, taught hunter's safety and coached girls' softball. He was proud to be part of the Glasco community.
He was preceded in death by his, wife Dorothy, parents, four sisters, Ione Hart, Thelma Stanley, George Ann Stevens, and Jayne Olson, two brothers, Wayne Nelson and Palmer Nelson.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation
Family inurnment will be held at a later time in the Glasco, Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be given to Glasco Foundation and Disabled Veterans Association c/o Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.
