Obituary

Pearl Townsend, 90, longtime resident of Concordia, Kansas, passed away in Concordia on January 10, 2015. Born on August 14, 1924 in Kensington, Kansas, the daughter of August and Minnie (Dettmer) Brunow, she was the 4th of six children.

Pearl grew up in Kensington and graduated from high school. On April 21, 1945, she married D. Dean Townsend. After living in various places while Dean served in the Army Air Corps, they moved to Concordia. After Dean's death in 1961, Pearl worked at the Cloud County Court House, and then at Production Credit Association. She also served as secretary of Concordia Lutheran Church for many years. In her spare time, she loved playing cards with her relatives and friends, and was part of several Bridge groups with many special friends. She also was an avid seamstress and took pride in creating beautiful quilts.

Pearl is survived by three children and four grandchildren: son, Ron & wife Karen, of Columbus, Ohio; son, Steve and wife Rose, of Shawnee, Kansas; and daughter, Nancy & husband Dave, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; granddaughter, Shelby, of Iowa City, Iowa; granddaughters Sara and Stephanie, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; granddaughter, Susan, of North Liberty, Iowa; and sister, Alice Rietzke, of Kensington, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Aleen, and three brothers, Edwin, Lawrence & Homer.

Friends are invited to join the family in a Celebration of Life Service at 10:30 am, Wed., Jan. 14, 2015 at Concordia Lutheran Church with Jim Winter & Rev. David Strommen officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia. Visitation will be from 9 am to 9 pm with family greeting friends from 6:30-7:30 pm, Tues., Jan. 13, at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.
