Obituary

Ralph E. Campbell, 96 years of age, of Concordia, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2012 at Cloud County Health Center in Concordia. He was born on Sept. 2, 1915 in Wilsey to Luther & Ethel (Morse) Campbell. Ralph attended Central grade school, north of Wilsey and Wilsey Rural High School. He attended Kansas State University. Ralph married Bertha E. Evans on Sept. 27, 1940 at her parents' home in Wilsey. She preceded him in death on Aug. 15, 2002. Ralph later married Maurine Cutter on April 4, 2003 at the First Christian Church in Concordia. Ralph was an assistant County Engineer for Osborne Co. and Graham County. He entered the US Army in 1943 and served in Europe, Okinawa and Korea. He was discharged as a 1 st Lt. in Oct. 1946. For 16 years, Ralph served as the Stevens County Engineer and then Cloud County Engineer for 3 years when he entered into private engineering in 1965. He then formed a partnership with Paul A. Johnson in 1969 that became Campbell & Johnson Engineers. Ralph remained with the firm until retiring in 1981, and continued part time until 1990. Ralph was a member of the First Christian Church in Concordia where he served as a Church Elder and a Sunday School Teacher for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Maurine; sons, Ernest Campbell and wife Eva of Lebanon, MO, Ken Campbell and wife Sarah of Council Grove, Mac Campbell and wife Wanda of Wamego; step son, Neal Cox and wife Jennifer of Missouri; step daughter, Myra Linsker and husband Jeff of Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bertha; step son, Otis Cox; brothers, Cecil, Harry, Donald and Ivan; and sisters, Ferne Shearer and Alice Schremmer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia. Interment will be at 2:30 PM Thursday, July 26, 2012 in the Wilsey Cemetery in Wilsey. Visitation will be from 11 AM to 9 PM Wednesday, July 25, 2012 with family greeting friends from 7 – 8 PM in the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia. The family suggests memorials to the First Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
