Robert "Bob" Lee Schreiber was born on Sept. 11, 1923 in Toronto, KS to Carl A. & Hedvig Charletta (Toburen) Schreiber. He passed from this life after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, Dec. 10, 2010 at Cloud County Health Center, Concordia, KS at the age of 87. Bob married Berniece V. Esslinger on July 21, 1955 in Clifton, KS. He attended Ober school in Randolph, KS. Bob was a lifelong brick mason and after retirement was recalled to work, to use his expertise in building the new Concordia Elementary School that opened in 1996. All his life, Bob, as he was called by his friends, was a guitarist and harmonica player for a number of bands. He also was a singer & enjoyed playing music until he was no longer able. His hobbies included gardening, but he loved to assist any neighbor or friend who was in need. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia. He is survived by his wife: Berniece Schreiber, Concordia, KS; son: Michael Schreiber & wife Glenda, Concordia, KS; daughters: Debra Rupert-Sjolander & husband Mark Sjolander, Ames, KS & Arlene Schreiber Thomas & husband Larry Thomas, Wichita, KS; grandchildren: Christopher Rupert & wife Jennifer, Concordia, KS & Amber Dillow & husband Johnny II, Ames, KS; great grandchildren: Ariana Rupert, Concordia, KS & Garrett Dillow, Ames, KS; step grandchild: Whitney Sjolander, Ames, KS; sister: Dorothy Peterson, Riley, KS; brothers: James Schreiber & wife Joan, Buena Park, CA & Dale Schreiber & wife Donna, Kansas City, MO; 3 foster grandchildren & several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helen Carter; brother, Arvon "Bud" Schreiber; son in law, Gary Rupert; brother in law, Warren Peterson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Wed., Dec. 15, 2010 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Rev. Barry Brinkman officiating. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 9 PM Tues. with the family greeting friends following the Vigil services at 6:30 PM at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. Burial will follow the services at St. Concordia Cemetery, Concordia. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
