P. Rasure
May 12, 1925 – December 12, 2007
Mr. Rasure was born May 12, 1925 in Goodland, Kansas. At the age of 18 he volunteered and served with the Army's 70th Infantry Division. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Army upon completion of the Officers' Candidate School at the Infantry School in Fort Benning, Georgia. In December, 1944 he landed in Manila Bay, the Phillippines as part of the 32nd Infantry Division. He received a Purple Heart for being wounded while leading a patrol. He was present when the Japanese leader surrendered to American troops and then remained stationed in Japan until August 1946.
After returning to Goodland to run the Goodland Lumber Yard, he married Darline L. Sylvester on May 22, 1949. He was then called back to duty in 1951 to serve in the Korean War, was field commissioned a Captain, and then Stationed in Korea until November 1952. In 1954, he purchased Concordia Lumber Company to expand his business operations at which time he and his wife Darline moved to Concordia, where they raised their four children.
Bob took great pride in his family. He enjoyed many outdoor activities with them including backpacking, swimming, golf, tennis, and biking. He instilled in his family a love for music and would play the piano and organ to entertain them. Bob's day was not complete without listening to one of his favorite records.
As a dedicated business man, Bob was always available to his customers, day or night. He subscribed to the philosophy that a "handshake" was all that you needed to do business with him. Bob owned and operated Concordia Lumber for over 50 years.
Survivors include his wife Darline, Concordia, Kansas; three daughters: Dana L. Rasure and husband Roy C. Breedlove, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Gina M. Rasure, Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Mara L. Rasure and husband Roger W. Wallace, Elkhorn, Nebraska; a son: John R. Rasure and wife Kendra Ley, Albuquerque, New Mexico; and three grandchildren: Taylor L. Breedlove, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Riley L. Wallace, Elkhorn, Nebraska; and Avery L. Wallace, Elkhorn, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 1 PM to 6 PM Sunday, December 16, 2007 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, December 17, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church, Concordia, Kansas. Interment will be in West Branch Cemetery, rural Concordia, Kansas, with Military Honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the University of Nebraska Foundation, 8712 West Dodge, Suite 100, Omaha, NE 68114 to be used to support research related to head and neck cancers.
