Obituary

Rodger Dennis Berg, former Concordia, Ks resident, son of Otto and Lena (Bailey) Berg, was born on April 23rd, 1945 in Concordia, Ks and passed away on January 21st, 2022 in Sterling, Colorado at the age of 76.

Rodger attended grade school and high school in Jamestown, Ks until his senior year when he and his parents moved to Mankato, Ks so he could participate in the school's baseball program there and he graduated with the class of 1964. He attended Fort Hays University and graduated with a Bachelor of Industrial Arts degree. On June 11th, 1971 he married Brenda Wilkes and they were blessed with two sons, Travis and Trent.

He began his career with Combustion Engineering and retired after 38 years with Alstom Preheater, Concordia, Ks.

Rodger enjoyed baseball, fishing, bowling, hunting and watching the squirrels, birds, and deer that he fed daily.   Baseball was a big part of Rodger's life, when he was 9 years old, he was selected to pitch for the Kansas All-Star Team.

He was blessed with five grandchildren, Kaleigh, Zachary (Hunter), Reagan, Ashlynn, and Trevor. He enjoyed watching them grow up and attending their school activities and sports.

Rodger is survived by his wife, Brenda, Sterling, CO, his son Travis (Barb), Sterling, CO and son Trent, McPherson, Ks, his sister Madlyn (Dale) Swenson, Concordia, Ks; brother, Jim (Avis) Berg, Phoenix, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother in-law, sister in-law, brother in-law and a niece.

It was Rodger's wishes to be cremated and a Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia with Pastor Al Paredes officiating and Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post #76.  Visitation will be Friday, January 28, 2022 from 1-8 pm with the family greeting friends from 6-7:30 pm all at the funeral home.  Burial of the cremains will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia at a later date.  The family suggests memorials to Hospice of the Plains, Inc., Sterling, CO in care of the funeral home.  For online condolences, please visit www.chaputbuoy.com.
