Obituary

Ronald "Ron/Ronnie" Eugene Waggoner, age 64, entered into rest on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at his residence in Concordia, Kansas.  He was born May 1, 1956 in Norton, Kansas to Burnal and Maryse (Bartley) Waggoner.

Ronald was a 1974 graduate from Northern Valley High School, Almena, Kansas.

Ron began his work career as a custom combiner with the Gerald Schemper family harvest crew in 1973.   He went on to drive as a courier for Pony Express and later worked as an independent truck driver.  He also enjoyed serving as a bus driver for Northern Valley grade school kids.  On Friday afternoons you could often see Ron shepherding his bus kids into the grocery store for pop or ice cream.

Many of his friends remember the years that he was the owner/operator of Wag's Waterhole bar and restaurant on Main Street in Almena, Kansas.  He was one of the best cooks in the area.  Folks would drive to Almena for his delicious hamburgers, ham & beans, chili, and other homestyle dishes.  Ron even had a list of folks he had to call when he made liver and onions!   He fed many famers and town folks over the years.  Most days you could find lively pitch games at the tables at Wag's Waterhole.  The Almena Celebration and annual Christmas party were well-known for family gatherings and fun.  And Ron was especially known for his jokes (sometimes kind of raw) and his stories!   Having grown up in the area, he had many, many stories, and more than his share of secrets, to tell on almost everyone in the community.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Burnal and Maryse.

He is survived by his brother, Jerald Waggoner, Salina, KS; sister Patricia Ambrosier and her husband Darrell, Almena, KS; sister, Marilyn Waggoner and her partner Dannie Duckworth, Cedar Creek, TX; niece, Wende Baker her husband Michael, Parkville, MO; nephew, Timothy Waggoner, his wife Joanna and their two children, Benjamin and Oliver, Golden, CO.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in Almena, Kansas at a later date.

Burial of the Cremains will be placed in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Almena, Kansas.
