Rosie (Brott) Powell, 92 years of age, of Concordia , Kansas , passed away Friday, February 25, 2011 at the Mt. Joseph Senior Village in Concordia. She was born in Western, Saline Co., Nebraska on July 24, 1918. Rosie was the oldest of 14 children of Henry and Anna (Lofing) Brott. The family moved to Perkins Co. Nebraska in 1920 where they homesteaded a farm near Madrid . Rosie was married to Cyril W. Powell on March 18, 1937 at Madrid , Nebraska . They were able to celebrate their 40 ^th wedding anniversary before Cy's passing in 1977. In 1947, the family moved to Republic Co. Kansas where they had bought a farm. In 1967, they moved to Concordia. For many years, Rosie worked in nursing homes in Concordia. First at Belden's Nursing Home, then at Concordia Rest Home as a nurse's aide and medication aide. In 1983, Rosie thought it was time to retire and enjoy life. It was then that she found a new purpose in life. A neighbor asked her if she could baby sit with her newborn son. Thus began a 26 year career as a day care provider. Over the years, Rosie provided day care for many children. Rosie had been a resident of Mt. Joseph Senior Village since October of 2010. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church , Concordia Lutheran Senior Women, and WELCA.

Rosie is survived by 2 sons, William Powell and wife Peggy of Concordia, Ronald Powell and wife Marilyn of Guthrie, OK; a daughter, Sharon Larson and husband Richard of Beloit; 4 brothers, John Brott and wife Marian, Walter Brott and wife Norma, all of Ogallala, NE, Harvey Brott and wife Jeanie of Elsie, NE, Marvin Brott and wife Lil of Chappell, NE; a sister, Katherine Stuhm and husband Ronald of Holdrege, NE; 10 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Carol Trimble and husband Keith. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cy; son, Howard; grandson, Jon; sisters, Lillian, Caroline, and Esther; brothers, Harry, Hank, Reiney, Leo, and Bill.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 1, 2011 in the Concordia Lutheran Church , Concordia, with Pastors David and Anita Strommen officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery , Concordia. Visitation will be held from 1 – 9 PM Monday, February 28, 2011 in the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia with family greeting friends from 6 – 8 PM. A memorial has been established to the church with the funeral home in charge.
