Roy Junior Hamel, 92 years of age, of Clifton passed away Sunday, April 5, 2026, at the Republic County Hospital, Belleville, Kansas. He was born on November 5, 1933, in St. Joseph, Kansas to Archile and Mary (Sorell) Hamel, Jr.

He grew up in the St. Joe community. He was a 1951 graduate of Clyde High School. He attended college for 1 year.

On August 24, 1953, he married Dorothy LeDuc in Concordia. She preceded Roy in death on September 19, 2006.

Roy was a Dairy Farmer in the Clifton community. He also ran patrol for the Washington County sheriff’s department covering the Clyde and Republic County communities. Roy served as Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director.

Roy was a member of the St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde, Kansas. He served as past president of the Knights of Columbus Council #1999 and was a 4th, Degree Knight. Roy was the past president of the Full Gospel of Businessmen’s Fellowship International for 20 years.

He enjoyed Hamm radio, reading, western books, fishing, black powder shoots, welding, visiting, teaching, being an amateur inventor and was a very giving and generous man.

Roy is survived by his three daughters, Brenda (Jim) Andersen, Belleville, KS: Linda Hamel and Cindy Taylor of Johnson, KS; a son, David (Jacquelyn) Hamel, Beaumont, TX; 16 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, multiple nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Hamel, son, Steven Hamel, parents, Archile and Mary, two brothers, Victor (Melina) and Edwin (Dorothy) Hamel.

Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the Chaput Mortuary in Clyde, with the family receiving friends after the Rosary Service.

A Knights of Columbus Council #1999 led Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m., April 15, 2026, at the Chaput Mortuary in Clyde.

Mass of a Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde, Kansas with Fr. Andrew Rockers officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Clyde, Kansas.

Following the graveside service family and friends are invited back to the St. John’ s Fellowship Hall where a luncheon will be served.
