Shirley Walden, Jr., was born August 10, 1921 in Concordia, Kansas to Shirley Amos and Lucy Vignery Walden. He passed away from this life on Sunday, February 3, 2008 at Sunset Nursing Home at the age of 86. He served in the Navy during WWII where he received the Purple Heart, 1-2 Silver Stars, and 3 bronze stars while he served in 14 major campaigns. After the war he moved back to Concordia, KS. He worked for the City of Concordia as a grounds keeper for many years. He received the Volunteer of the Year award for the Cloud County Food Bank. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he served as financial secretary for many years, and the VFW Post #588. Services will be at 1:00PM Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9AM to 9PM Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6PM to 8PM. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill with Military Graveside Honors by VFW Post #588 and American Legion Post #76. Family suggests memorials to the Cloud County Food Bank.
