Obituary

Sister Lucienne Savoie died January 9, 2015 at Nazareth Motherhouse in Concordia, KS.
She was 94 years old and a sister of St. Joseph for 77 years. She was born in Dryburg, MI on November 16, 1920, to Edmond and Lucienne Savoie, the fourth of eleven children, and was baptized Florence. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS on February 12, 1937. On August 14, 1937, Florence received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Lucienne. She pronounced her vows on August 15, 1938 and final vows on November 16, 1941.

Sister Lucienne graduated in 1943 from the St. John's Hospital School of Nursing in Salina, KS. In 1960 she received a B.S. in Nursing Education from Marymount College, Salina, KS. followed by a MA from Boston College in Maternal and Child Health in 1962. S. Lucienne served at Catholic hospitals in Salina and Sabetha, KS, Ann Arbor, MI, and El Paso, TX. She retired from nursing in 1975 and lived in Salina, KS until 1977 at which time she moved to Las Cruces, NM. In 2003 she returned to Kansas to retire at the Motherhouse in Concordia.

Sister Lucienne was preceded in death by her parents, and seven brothers. She is survived by one sister (Sister Mary Savoie) and two brothers. A Bible Vigil Service will be (was) held Sunday, January 11 at 4:30 p.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel with Sister Mary Savoie as the eulogist. The Mass of Christian Burial will be (was) Monday, January 12 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel with Rev. Jim Hoover presiding. The burial will be in the Nazereth Motherhouse Cemetery.

Memorials for Sister Lucienne Savoie may be given to the Sisters of St. Joseph Health Care/Retirement Fund or the Apostolic Works of the Sisters; P.O. Box 279, Concorida, KS 66901. Chaput Buoy Funeral Home, 325 W. 6th St., Concordia is in charge of arrangements.
