Sister Donata Bissett died June 13, 2012, at Mount Joseph Senior Community in Concordia. She was 96 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 77 years. She was born in Plainville on October 4, 1915, to Edward and Clara (Rempe) Bissett, the first of six children, and was baptized Catherine Louise. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, on August 15, 1933. On August 15, 1934, Catherine received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Donata. She pronounced first vows on August 15, 1935 and final vows on August 15, 1938. Sister Donata received a B.S. in foods and nutrition from Marymount College, Salina, and an M.S. in foods and nutrition from Kansas State University in Manhattan. She worked as a Dietician and Director of Food Services at St. Joseph's Hospital, Concordia, St. Joseph's Hospital, Belvidere, IL and St. Ann's Home, Concordia. In 1995, Sister Donata retired to St. Mary's Convent, Concordia and in 1997 she moved to the Motherhouse. In 2006 Sister Donata moved to Mount Joseph.

Sister Donata was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by her brother, Herman of Tulsa, OK; sister-in-law, Helen Bissett of Littleton, CO; and many nieces and nephews.

A Bible Vigil Service will be held Friday, June 15, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel with Sister Marilyn Stahl as the eulogist. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel, Father James Hoover presiding.
