Sister Judith Deemy died Saturday, March 24, 2007, at Mt. Joseph Senior Village in Concordia, KS. She was 87 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 64 years. She was born in Gypsum, KS on June 19, 1919 to Daniel Amos and Mary Catherine Manns Deemy, the third of ten children, and was baptized Eleanor Regina. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS on September 8, 1942. On March 19, 1943, Eleanor Regina received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Judith. She pronounced first vows on March 19, 1944 and final vows on August 15, 1947. Sister Judith received her BS in Commerce and Social Studies from LaSalle Extension University, Chicago and worked in hospitals staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph in Manhattan, Concordia and Salina. In 1994 Sister Judith retired to St. Mary's Convent in Concordia; in 1997 she moved to Nazareth Motherhouse and in 2004 she moved to Mt. Joseph Senior Village in Concordia. Sister Judith was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one step brother; one sister, one half sister and two step sisters. She is survived by three step sisters: Elizabeth Potts, Martha Greathouse and Thelma Morrow. A Bible Vigil Service will be (was) held Monday, March 26, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel with Sister Pat McLennon as the eulogist. The Mass of Christian Burial will be (was) Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel with Rev. Jack Schlaf presiding. The burial will be in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery.
