Sister Leo Frances Winbinger died October 5, 2011 at Mt. Joseph Senior Village in Concordia , KS . She was 81 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 61 years. She was born in Cuba , KS on June 18, 1930 to Leon and Frances Baxa Winbinger, the first of two children, and was baptized Theresa Elizabeth. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia , KS on September 7, 1949. On March 19, 1950, Theresa received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Leo Frances. She pronounced first vows on March 19, 1951 and final vows on March 19, 1954.

Sister Leo Frances received a BME in music education from Marymount College in Salina , KS . She taught in schools staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph in Herndon, Salina , Plainville , Tipton, and Manhattan , KS and in Gladstone , MI , Boonville , MO , Silver City , NM and Chicago , IL . In 1997, Sister Leo Frances retired to the Motherhouse and moved to Mt. Joseph Senior Village in 2004.

Sister Leo Frances was preceded in death by her parents and brother. She is survived by her sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews. A Bible Vigil Service will be (was) held October 10, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel with Sister Pat McLennon as the eulogist. The Mass of Christian Burial will be (was) October 11, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel with Father Jim Hoover and Father Henry Baxa presiding.
