Sister Jane Guenette died November 11, 2012 at Nazareth Motherhouse in Concordia, KS. She was 97 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 78 years. She was born in Dryburg, MI on May 22, 1915 to Leonard and Rubia Savoie Guenette, the fourth of fifteen children, and was baptized Jane Alexina. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS on July 3, 1933. On March 18, 1934, Jane Alexina received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Mary Noelle, later changing her name to Sister Jane. She pronounced first vows on March 19, 1935 and final vows on August 15, 1938.

Sister Jane received an A.B. in Education from Marymount College, Salina, KS in 1959. She taught elementary grades in parochial schools of Chicago, IL, Fairbury, NE, Beloit, Junction City, Herington, Damar, Palco and Leawood, KS. In 1989 she retired to Grand Island, NE and then moved to Nazareth Motherhouse in Concordia in 2003.

Sister Jane was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her brother Gerald of Milwaukee, WI, and by her sisters Therese McDonald of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and Noella Makosky of Escanaba, MI. A Bible Vigil Service will be (was) held Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel with Sister Mary Savoie as the eulogist. The Mass of Christian Burial will be (was) Wednesday, November 14 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel with Rev. James Hoover presiding. The burial will be in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery. Chaput-Buoy Mortuary, 325 W. 6 ^th St., Concordia, KS is in charge of arrangements.
