Obituary

Sister Mary Martha Dickman died September 26, 2008 at Mount Joseph Senior Community in Concordia, KS. She was 93 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 75 years. She was born in Menlo, KS on February 28, 1915 to Francis Bernard and Regina Helen Robben Dickman, the eighth of fourteen children, and was baptized Angela Anne. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS on February 11, 1933. On August 15, 1933, Angela Anne received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Mary Martha. She pronounced first vows on August 16, 1934 and final vows on August 16, 1937. Sister Mary Martha received an A.B. in Education from Marymount College, Salina, KS. Of the 50 years spent in teaching, 20 were in the public schools of Kansas. The other years were in parochial schools of Concordia, Plainville, Manhattan and Beloit, KS; Monett, MO and Silver City, NM. In 2004 she retired to the Motherhouse and then moved to Mt. Joseph Senior Village in Concordia in 2006. Sister Mary Martha was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her brothers Robert of Hoxie, Edmund of Oakley, Gilbert of Denver, Colorado and by her sister Regina Rietcheck of Grinnell and by her sister-in-law Laurene Dickman. A Bible Vigil Service will be (was) held Sunday, September 28, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel with Sister Carolyn Teter as the eulogist. The Mass of Christian Burial will be (was) Monday, September 29 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel Rev. Jack Schlaf presiding. The burial will be in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery. Chaput-Buoy Mortuary, 325 W. 6th St., Concordia, KS is in charge of arrangements. Memorials for Sister Mary Martha may be given to the Sisters of St. Joseph Health Care/Retirement Fund or the Apostolic Works of the Sisters; P.O Box 279, Concordia, KS 66901.
