Sister Bette Moslander died March 22, 2015 at Nazareth Motherhouse in Concordia, KS. She was 92 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 57 years. She was born in Grand Island, Nebraska on February 5, 1923, to Dr. William and Irene Huet Moslander, the oldest of three children, and was baptized Irene Elizabeth. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS on September 8, 1957. On March 18, 1958, Bette received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Thomas More, later changing her name to Bette. She pronounced first vows on March 19, 1959 and final vows on March 19, 1962.

Sister Bette earned a B.S. in Chemistry and Biology from Marymount College in 1944. She also earned a Ph.D. in Religious Studies and Theology from St. Mary's, Notre Dame in 1953. After entering the community, S. Bette taught theology at Marymount College from 1959 to 1965 with the exception of a year of study at Lumen Vitae in Brussels, Belgium. S. Bette was elected to the Executive Council of the Congregation in 1965 as councilor and regional coordinator. She served as president of the Sisters of St. Joseph from 1975-1983. During this time she was also a member of the Board and Executive Committee and Presidency of the national Leadership Conference of Women Religious. She served as Director of Manna House of Prayer through the 1990s and resided there until her death.

Sister Bette was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by two sisters, Marie Moslander Miner and Margaret Moslander Thull. A Bible Vigil Service will be (was) held March 24 at 7:00 p.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel with Sister Marcia Allen as the eulogist. The Mass of Christian Burial will be (was) March 25 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel with Rev. Jim Hoover and Rev. Leroy Metro presiding. The burial will be in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery. Chaput-Buoy Mortuary, 325 W. 6th St., Concordia, KS is in charge of arrangements.
