Obituary

Sister Julia Norton died Monday, August 20, 2007, at Village Manor in Abilene, KS. She was 66 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 45 years. She was born in Salina, Kansas on November 5, 1940 to Alphonse and Ann Miller Norton, the third of four children. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, Kansas on September 8, 1961. On August 14, 1962, she received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Anne Elizabeth. She pronounced first vows on August 15, 1963 and final vows on August 15, 1968. Sister Julia received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Marymount College in 1964, and a Master of Arts in spirituality and counseling from Duquesne University in 1972. She served in pastoral ministry in Salina, Concordia, Bayard, NM, Kansas City, MO, Manhattan, KS, and Wichita, KSSister Julia is survived by her sister Patricia Cederoth of Illinois, and by her brothers John of Manhattan, Kansas and Alan of Northfield, Minnesota A wake service will be (was) held August 24, 2007at 7:00 p.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel with Sisters Judy Stephens and Esther Pineda as eulogists. The Mass of Christian Burial will be (was) August 25, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel with Fr. Jack Schlaf presiding. The burial was in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery. Memorials for Sister Julia may be given to the Sisters of St. Joseph Health Care/ Retirement Fund or the Apostolic Works of the Sisters; P.O Box 279, Concordia, KS 66901.
