Veda C. Jones was born on Sept. 5, 1910 on the family farm in Rural Jewell, Kansas to Charles W. and Clara Justice Bowles. She passed from this life on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Mount Joseph Senior Community in Concordia, Kansas at the age of 97. She grew up on her parents farm west of Jewell, Kansas. Following graduation from Jewell High School she taught six years in the rural schools of Jewell County. She married Marshall L. Jones on May 1, 1935 at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Jewell, KS. He preceded her in death on March 28, 1995. Four sons blessed this union, Lawrence, Gerald, Larry and Jerry. The family resided in Jewell County until October 15, 1955, then moved to Cloud County where they resided the remainder of their lives. Veda was employed at St. Joseph Hospital for over 20 years, where she was a nurses aid, ward clerk and later medical record secretary. She later worked for F&A Food Distributors as a secretary from 1982 until 1992. She was a member of the McCabe Chapel at an early age, later transferring to the First United Methodist Church in Concordia. She was a member of the Navy Mother's Club and VFW Auxiliary Post #588 for over 30 years. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, making scrapbooks of quotations as well as current events and making others happy. She kept a daily journal since 1963, including her daily thoughts and firm belief in positive thinking and daily prayers that helped solve many problems and personal adversities. She is survived by her sons, Gerald Jones and wife Debbie, Grand Island, Nebraska, Larry Jones and wife Nancy, Clyde, Kansas and Jerry Jones, Concordia, Kansas; 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Marshall, a son, Lawrence, her parents, 2 sisters and 2 great grandchildren. Services will be held on Friday, November 16, 2007 at 10 AM at the First United Methodist Church, Concordia, KS with Rev. Sandra K. Moore officiating. Burial will follow the services at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home from 9 AM to 9 PM where the family will greet friends from 7-8 PM, also at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Meadowlark Hospice or the First United Methodist Church.
