Vera L. Girard, age 92, Concordia, KS, passed away on Sat., Feb. 13, 2021 at the Derby Health & Rehabilitation Center, Derby, KS.  She was born on April 6, 1928 in Clara, KS to Bernard & Loretta (Straub) Wurtz.

She graduated from Haddam high school.  Vera married Ernest "Ernie" Girard on Sept. 20, 1947 in Concordia, KS and he preceded her on April 11, 2003. She was a homemaker.

Vera was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, where she was active in the Altar Society and ladies church activities.  She was a former member of the VFW ladies auxiliary.  Vera enjoyed playing cards with her friends.  Her passion was her family and she loved spending time with them.

Survivors include five daughters: Sheryl Michaud (Patrick), Topeka; Shirley Grimsley (Glenn), Derby; Denise Moe (Dan) & Michelle Jackle both of Wichita; Melinda Wheeler (Kenneth), Derby; three sons: Dale Girard (Sharrid), Olathe; Robert Girard (Colleen), Kettering, OH & Jeffrey Girard (Mary), Kearney, NE; 24 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie; her parents; granddaughter, Crystal Grimsley; grandson, Trent Girard; sisters, Marie Dorman, Theresa Hoover & Veronica Watkins & brothers, Marvin, Clarence, Lawrence, Audrey, Bernard, Wilfred & Robert Wurtz.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 am, Thurs., Feb. 18, 2021 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia with Fr. David Metz officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Concordia Cemetery.  Visitation will be Wed, Feb. 17, 2021 from 1-8 pm with a Rosary service at 6 pm all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.  The family suggests memorials to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Concordia or the Sisters of Immaculate Heart of Mary, Colwich in care of the funeral home.  For online condolences, please visit www.chaputbuoy.com.
