Vera L. (Nickerson) Higgins, 84 years of age, of Concordia, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Cloud County Health Center in Concordia. She was born on August 1, 1929 in Concordia to Emery Gilbert and Laura Alice (Kelly) Nickerson. Vera married Walter J. Higgins in Concordia on July 6, 1946. They enjoyed shooting trap together for many years. Vera was a CNA/Medical Aide at Concordia Rest Home for 30 years. She enjoyed crocheting, fishing, the outdoors, and spending time with her grandkids. Vera was a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries.

Vera is survived by her 6 children, Michael D. Higgins and wife Marjorie of Concordia, Patricia Jean Higgins of Salina, Mary Beth Valcoure and husband Paul of Concordia, Marcia Ann Anderson and husband Donald of Carlton, Billy Higgins and Sandy Storkson of Winfield, Missouri, Linda L. Higgins-Boyd and husband Roger of St. Charles, Missouri; 4 grandchildren, Christinia Eickmann and husband Mick, Patricia L. Ketterman, Derek Higgins Davis, Jessica Ull and husband Robert; 11 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Walter on July 24, 1995; sister, Opal Rose Nickerson; and brother, Marlin E. Nickerson.

Graveside Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, September 23, 2013 at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery northeast of Norway. Family will greet friends from 9 AM to 10 AM Monday, September 23, 2013 in the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice in care of the funeral home. Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia is in charge of arrangements.
