Verlyn Earl Trueblood, age 78, died Thurs., Feb. 26, 2015 at Cloud County Health Center, Concordia, KS. He was born on Jan. 14, 1937 in Bird City, KS to Vern L. & Leona F. (Niehaus) Trueblood.
Verlyn attended Bird City Grade School and graduated from Sherman County High School, Goodland, KS. He earned B.S. & M.S. degrees from Emporia State University. He taught business courses at Concordia High School for 33 years, retiring in 1997. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving 3 years in Japan in the Army Security Agency, where he deciphered enemy code working Morse intelligence. He received a Master Teacher Award from the State Board of Marketing Education in 1987. He married Delores R. (Madl) Mowry on June 9, 1990. He was an active member of KNEA, lifetime member of American Legion Post #76, member of B.P.O.E. #2253, Clay Center and a P.E.R for B.P.O.E. 586, Concordia. He was a resident at Sunset Nursing Home for the past 16 months. Verlyn loved life, his students and the people he knew.
Verlyn is survived by his wife, Delores, Concordia; daughters, Julie Willoughby & Jennifer Trueblood, both of Concordia; stepsons, John Mowry (Michelle), Goddard & Craig Mowry (Stacy), Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren, Heather Neely (David), Olathe, Starla Balthazor, Concordia; Kyle Cook, Salina; Kevin Cook (fianceé Hadass Green), Fletcher, OK; Elizabeth Willoughby, Concordia; Luke & Linnea Mowry, Thief River Falls, MN & Claire Mowry, Goddard; brother, Lindal (Jerry Ann) Trueblood, Raymore, MO; sister, Verneen Forssberg (Norman), Pratt. Great grandchildren, Mason, Mariah, Tyler, Cameron & Juliann.
He was preceded in death by his parents & brothers, Rapheal & Troy Trueblood.
The family selected cremation. Memorial services will be at 11 am, Mon., March 2, 2015 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home with Rev. Dean R. Frazier officiating. Burial of the cremains will be at Pleasant Hill with Military Honors by Ft. Riley. Friends may sign the register book from 1-6 pm with the family greeting friends from 5-6 pm, Sun., March 1, 2015 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.
